Poet Dwayne Morgan (Up From the Roots), above left, hosted a terrific Toronto Poetry Slam at Supermarket last night. The Kensington Market club was SRO as usual with a top-drawer slate of poets competing to represent Toronto at the annual Verses Festival of Words Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Championships (CIPS) in Vancouver this spring. Charismatic local poet The P.O.E., above right, grabbed the brass ring last night and will be winging it to Lotusland to represent TO in April: “I’m going there to win it!” he declared before delivering a rousing encore poem. It was a big week for Morgan, too, who released his latest book, Everyday Excellence at Harbourfront’s Kuumba Festival on Friday.
