The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) touched down in City Hall Committee Room 1 this afternoon to pump up anticipation for what IIFA Project Head Noreen Khan promised would be a weekend of “colour, madness and mayhem.” Local bangra and drum group Sonay Gabroo Punjab De, above, got the party started with a captivating performance in front of the City’s Economic Development Committee.

The purpose of the appearance was ostensibly to introduce a full slate of IIFA Buzz events taking place June 23 – 25. Nearly 1,000 Indian film, music and media stars will be jetting into town for the awards ceremony to be broadcast live from Rogers Centre June 25 to more than 600 million viewers in 110 countries. Said Councillor Michael Thompson, Chair of the Economic Development Committe, “This event is a clear indication that Toronto can not only call itself a welcoming city of diversity but also a world centre for films, art and culture.”
