Budding rock band SLEC was one of four young groups from Toronto music school Beyond the Beat showcasing their progress at Hugh’s Room yesterday afternoon. Music teacher Dave McKenzie (left) started the show by reminding each of the groups to relax and not worry if notes got dropped or cues were missed: “Music is a lifetime thing,” he said, “nothing is riding on this performance today except your own enjoyment. So have fun up here!”
Pictured above are Ethan Maudsley, age 12, drummer Logan Webster (11), Callum Maudsley (12) and Jack Irwin (12). The boys covered Bryan Adams, Oasis and U2, in addition to performing three original songs. Beyond the Beat’s younger students perform another showcase at the Beach’s Fox Theatre December 17.
