Voices of the Guild: A Storytelling Festival

What: Storytelling
Where: Scarborough
When: Summer 2007

The Guild Renaissance Group presented a multi-disciplinary festival at the Guild on Sunday, August 12, 2007 under the banner The Guild: Alive With Culture. As part of the project, storytellers Anna Kerz, Laurie Malabar and Bruce Carmody delivered a storytelling training program called Story Jam, offering workshops to school-aged audiences. Anna and Laurie worked with youth in the Galloway/Kingston Road neighbourhood. Story Jam created an opportunity for young people of all ages to explore storytelling from a personal, family and/or cultural perspective. Story Jam then took this program one step further by providing a series of workshops for teachers, educators and /or community members, to teach the art of storytelling, thereby creating our next generation of storytellers. In addition, there was also spoken word workshops held at the East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club, also aimed at youth.
