Working in partnership with Commffest Community Film
Festival, Arts in the Hood hosted a one-time film screening,
Films from the Hood, on September 28, 2007, at the
Rainbow Cinemas. Following a call for submissions to
the youth arts community, seven short films were selected
by curator Kathleen M. Smith that highlighted a
topic both contemporary and relevant to the youth of
Toronto. A Q&A with the young filmmakers wrapped up
the sold-out evening that also included a performance
by two of the participants. The films screened were:
Alwyn by Alwyn Barry, Bare It by Doug Campbell, Lisa
Petrunia, Orion & Marnee, Breakin' the Blues by Michael
Bowe, Building Peace One Seed at a Time by Tyronne
Maclean-Wilson, Hello, My Name is Herman by Karine
Silverwoman, This is My House by Sarah Sharkey Pearce,
and Troymotion by Justin Lovell.
